For Parents: We have an exciting opportunity for parents to participate in the first part of our week. The two day mission aspect (June 20-22) is open to parents for $105. This includes all meals and lodging from Sunday afternoon to Tuesday afternoon. If you would like to participate, please let me know. It’s a great opportunity to come together as a family to serve and experience all the great opportunities at Massanetta Springs.

Additional Details: We are relying on parents to transport us to camp and back to keep costs down. We will leave on Sunday, June 20 immediately after Sunday School at 11:00 a.m. We will need to be picked up on Friday, June 25 before 11:00 a.m. Please contact Joe if you are available to drive. It is about a 2.5 hour drive. We also need a 1:5 ratio of adults to students to make the mission aspect work with the partner organization. We will be participating in residential repairs through Rebuilding Together.

Mission@Massanetta

A PARTNERSHIP BETWEEN
MASSANETTA SPRINGS CAMP & CONFERENCE CENTER
AND HARRISONBURG/ROCKINGHAM COUNTY

Mission@Massanetta provides affordable lodging, meals, and amenities (worship space, campfires, swimming, canoeing, hiking, a challenge course) essential for supporting off-site mission projects within the greater Harrisonburg/Rockingham County area. Finding the right organization to partner with Massanetta was essential. Rebuilding Together agreed to serve as the coordinating entity for the program identifying sites based on the length of the work camp and the “skill sets” of the volunteers. Worksites will be arranged through Rebuilding Together and will include locations in nearby Harrisonburg and Rockingham County. Should the demand for sites exceed the local affiliate’s projects, other projects will be identified through the greater Augusta County Rebuilding Together affiliate or programs like Habitat for Humanity.

Because Rebuilding Together is a non-profit organization, donations are tax-deductible. Funds for worksite materials are provided through Rebuilding Together. Mission@Massanetta workgroups are not expected to make a financial contribution to Rebuilding Together but, should they desire, donations for materials are always welcome.

This program allows Massanetta Springs Camp & Conference Center to honor its mission “to provide a place for discovery and renewal through worship, nurture and fellowship, inviting all to share in the grace and hospitality of Christ.”

Mission projects are selected based upon the skill sets of the group. Careful attention is paid to the skills and the tools necessary to support those skills so that groups do not remain idle during the mission experience. Unique to Massanetta, partnerships have been established with a wide-variety of local agencies to provide rich, rewarding service opportunities for each group member. Agencies include:

  • Rebuilding Together Harrisonburg/Rockingham and Rebuilding Together Augusta
    • Both of these programs provide rehabilitations within homes of elderly or disadvantaged persons
    • Often require skills and abilities like carpentry, electrical, plumbing, roofing, etc.
    • Building materials and some tools are provided by Rebuilding Together
    • When possible, a pre-trip site visit will allow the group leaders to determine other tools and supplies helpful to accomplish goals for the week
  • Mercy House Thrift Store (volunteers sort clothing and other items, preparing them for display and sale in the store)
  • The Volunteer Farm of Shenandoah near Woodstock, Virginia is always accepting volunteers to help on the farm and in the office. Summertime the farm is in full swing - harvesting the early crops, planting new crops and continual soil improvement. The program is a partner of the World Foundation for Children
  • Projects at the Massanetta Springs Camp & Conference Center can help complete the mission experience
