Alternating Tuesday nights:

Girls meet at the Daley home

Guys meet at the Snowa home

Small groups are taking shape as we speak.  This may be a marathon but we are in it for the long haul.  My Sarah has given herself to Tuesday night Bible study with our middle and high school girls.  Dinner is provided.  Girls meet at our house and guys meet with me at the Snowa’s.  Check the church calendar for who is meeting each week.  We alternate every other week.

What may take the longest to get off the ground is our Sunday night small group meeting. It will fall within the timeframe of our normal evening schedule. I see it being a wonderful time for our students to connect with each other and an adult who really cares for them! This time will be set aside for our students to ask questions and discuss what they just heard in the talk. We want to start these asap but I need a number of volunteers to review a leader handbook so we can start some preliminary training. If you are interested in investing in our youth please or call.

Talent Show and Silent Auction
Youth Fundraiser

The Event:          Church-wide talent show, silent auction, and dessert theatre.

The Time:            Saturday, May 16, 2009 at 6:30pm

The Purpose:  We want to give all of our students an opportunity to go on our summer trips. This fundraiser will partner with other fundraising options to allow our students to raise support to go on our summer trips. The silent auction will lower the cost of the overall trip. If a student does not participate in the silent auction as outlined below they will not be able to get their cost lowered.  Our talent show also serves as a fun time for the church body to come together and enjoy an evening of entertainment and fellowship.

Select here for more information for family and friends.

What We Need:  Each student attending a summer trip needs to donate two items for the silent auction.

Item 1 : A Service: For example, I (Joe) am going to donate 4 hours of yardwork and 4 hours of carpentry since I am going on both trips.  Students can donate instrument lessons, babysitting, housecleaning, yardwork etc.  They can pair up with another student as well.  We would ask that the service be 4 hours at minimum. Be creative. Think of what you could do that would get a high bid at a silent auction.

Item 2 : An Item: We would also ask that each youth provide an item for the silent auction valued around $100 (or more if possible!). Please note!  We are not asking that families go out and spend $100 for an item for the auction. We want donations from the community, theme baskets, golf, stays at family vacation homes etc.  We understand that financial things are tough right now for everyone and we want to ‘shake the tree’ and find creative ways to raise support through connections and donations!

Other Options:

Work Projects – If a student is looking to raise more support they can see me and get their name put on a list signifying that they are available to provide services for members of SCPC.  All they need is their name, phone number, and service they want to make themselves available for.  It will be clearly communicated that this is an opportunity for the youth to work for pay to raise support for their trip.  These funds will go directly into their own “account” and not be distributed into a general summer trips fund.  We will be asking that those who ‘employ’ the youth to pay what they would for anyone they would hire to do the job.

Support Letters – This option is for those going on the Missions Trip.  We have a formatted letter given by AIM that would be great to send to extended family members.  Our senior high group has the great opportunity to be a ‘go-er’ in Butler, PA.  Their relatives and close friends can partner with them and be a ‘sender’.  Any funds sent this way will also go into their own “account.”

Happy Fun Spring Day

As you all have been hearing for a while, Happy Fun Spring Day is right around the corner.  On May 17 during youth we will have an event geared towards helping our youth invite their friends. This event has such huge potential. We will have hamburgers and hotdogs on the grill and a ton of games and activities for the students. I am not revealing too much information about what the games are. I want to keep the element of surprise. The main thing is that students bring clothes that they don’t mind getting extremely messy. If you would like to volunteer to help please let me know. I need some people to help with water balloons and others to help with games.
